An individual may pursue a Linfield University response procedure independently of any off-campus processes, such as reporting to law enforcement or pursuing other non-campus-based civil reporting options. Linfield University reserves the right to initiate a disciplinary process even if law enforcement has declined to do so.
University disciplinary proceedings may be instituted against a student charged with conduct that potentially violates both the criminal law and this Student Code (that is, if both possible violations result from the same factual situation) without regard to the pendency of civil or criminal litigation in court or criminal arrest and prosecution. Proceedings under this Student Code may be carried out prior to, simultaneously with, or following civil or criminal proceedings off campus at the discretion of the Dean of Students or designee. Determinations made or sanctions imposed under this Student Code shall not be subject to change because criminal charges arising out of the same facts giving rise to violation of University rules were dismissed, reduced, or resolved in favor of or against the criminal law defendant.
Anonymous Reporting
Linfield University is committed to reviewing all reports of prohibited conduct. Anonymous reports are accepted, however Linfield University 's ability to obtain additional information may be compromised . Our options to respond or assist the student may be limited if we cannot contact you to verify information or ask necessary follow-up questions. As a result, the ability to investigate anonymous reports may be limited and it is likely that no formal action or conduct process may be able to occur. If you are concerned about possible retaliation, please contact the Dean of Students Office to discuss options.
False Reports
Linfield University will not tolerate intentional false reporting of incidents. It is a violation of Linfield University policies to make an intentionally false report of any policy violation, and it may also violate state criminal statutes and civil defamation laws. A person will be referred to the appropriate campus process if found to have intentionally made a false report or knowingly submitted falsified materials.
