Guests and visitors shall abide by Linfield policies and procedures. Those who invite guests to campus are responsible for their guest’s behavior and will be held accountable for their guests’ actions. 

Linfield community members must notify Linfield Public Safety they have a temporary or overnight visitor vehicle on campus. There is no overnight parking on the Portland Campus. Vehicles can be registered online, in person, over the phone, or via email.

To register a vehicle please provide the following information:

• Name and phone number.
• Vehicle plate number.
• Vehicle make, model, color, & year.
• Visitor’s name and phone number (visiting vehicles only)

All vehicles must be parked in accordance with Oregon state law and the Linfield University Traffic and Parking Regulations. Visitors may park in any regular parking space. If a visitor receives a citation, contact the LPS Office for further instructions.

Resident Guest & Visitation Expectations

Linfield University recognizes that inviting guests into residential communities can be an important part of the college experience. These expectations are designed to balance residents' ability to host guests with the rights, privacy, safety, and comfort of all members of the residential community. Residents are expected to communicate openly with roommates and neighbors, demonstrate respect for shared spaces, and take responsibility for the actions of their guests.

A guest is defined as any individual who is not assigned as a resident of the room, apartment, or residential space they are visiting. Residents may host guests during designated visitation hours as long as the presence of the guest does not interfere with the rights or responsibilities of other residents.

General Visitation Expectations

Visitation hours in student rooms, apartments, and residential floors are:

• Sunday–Thursday: 10:00 AM–10 PM
• Friday–Saturday: 10:00 AM–12:00 AM

Residents hosting guests are responsible for ensuring that guests understand and follow all University policies, community expectations, and residential guidelines. The host resident is responsible for their guest's behavior at all times, including any damages or policy violations caused by the guest.

Residents and guests are expected to follow the following expectations:

• A resident's right to privacy, comfort, and use of their assigned residential space takes priority over another resident's ability to host a guest.
• Hosts must remain with their guests at all times. Guests may not be left unattended or unescorted in University housing.
• Guests must comply with all University policies and may be asked to leave campus housing or University property if they violate community expectations.
• Residents may be held responsible for any damage, disruption, or policy violations caused by their guests.
• Repeated or significant violations of the guest policy may result in the loss of visitation privileges, reassignment within housing, or cancellation of the housing agreement.

Residents are encouraged to discuss guest expectations with their roommate(s) and include visitation preferences within their Roommate Contract. Communication regarding guests, shared spaces, noise, privacy, and personal boundaries is essential to maintaining a positive residential environment.

Overnight Guests

The Overnight Guest Policy is an extension of the general visitation expectations. An overnight guest is defined as any individual who is not assigned to the room or apartment and remains in the residential space beyond established visitation hours.

Linfield University understands that residents may occasionally wish to host overnight guests; however, overnight guests require additional consideration due to the impact on roommates, shared spaces, and the residential community.

Residents hosting overnight guests must follow the expectations below:

• Residents must receive approval from all roommates before hosting an overnight guest. Roommate consent must be obtained at least 24 hours in advance.
• Residents in residence halls must notify their Resident Assistant (RA) at least 24 hours before hosting an overnight guest.
• The preferences and comfort of roommates must be respected. A roommate's right to occupy their room or apartment without an overnight guest takes priority over another resident's ability to host one.
• Residents must follow all roommate contract expectations regarding overnight guests.
• Guests must use appropriate restroom facilities based on the residential community and housing assignment.
• Overnight guests are not permitted during orientation periods, University breaks, or the week immediately preceding and during final exams.
• Residents may host an overnight guest for no more than three consecutive nights and no more than six nights within a thirty-day period.

Failure to follow the Guest and Overnight Guest Policies may result in educational conversations, loss of visitation privileges, housing reassignment, or cancellation of the housing agreement depending on the circumstances and severity of the violation.

Residence Life and Housing encourages residents to communicate proactively with roommates, respect shared living environments, and use guest privileges responsibly as part of being a considerate member of the Linfield residential community.

Single-Gender Halls

Residents living in single-gender communities may host guests who do not identify with the designated gender of the community; however, all visitation expectations, roommate expectations, and community standards must continue to be followed.

Residents are responsible for communicating with their roommates regarding guests and ensuring that all guests respect the privacy, comfort, and rights of other community members. Guests must remain with their host at all times, follow all University policies, and use designated restroom facilities appropriately while in the residential community.

The right of a resident to feel comfortable and have access to their assigned living space takes priority over a resident's ability to host a guest. Residents and guests are expected to demonstrate respect, consideration, and awareness of the unique community environment within single-gender housing.

In single-gender residential communities, overnight guests must align with the designated gender expectations of the community. Guests who do not meet the designated gender requirements of the community may not utilize the community’s gender-specific restroom or shower facilities, regardless of approval or permission from the hosting resident. Residents are responsible for communicating these expectations to their guests prior to arrival and ensuring that all guests follow residential community standards.
