Students must attain a nursing major GPA of 2.000 and a grade of C or better in all required nursing courses in order to graduate.
Progression in the Pre-Licensure Programs
A student’s progression through the nursing program requires achieving appropriate grades in courses and retaining approval by the nursing faculty that the student is qualified in all relevant respects to practice nursing safely and competently. Students may not be admitted to or progress in the nursing major if they are on academic probation with the university.
Students must earn a grade of C or better in FOUNDATIONS OF COMMUNITY-BASED NURSING PRACTICE (NURS 305), PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION IN HEALTHCARE (NURS 315), EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING (NURS 320), and INTEGRATED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING I (NURS 335) to progress to NURSING CARE OF CLIENTS AND FAMILIES ACROSS THE LIFESPAN LIVING WITH CHRONIC CONDITIONS (NURS 355), CLINICAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY FOR NURSING PRACTICE (NURS 365), INTEGRATED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING II (NURS 375), and NURSING IN MENTAL HEALTH AND ILLNESS ACROSS THE LIFESPAN (NURS 395).
Students must earn a grade of C or better in NURSING CARE OF CLIENTS AND FAMILIES ACROSS THE LIFESPAN LIVING WITH CHRONIC CONDITIONS (NURS 355), CLINICAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY FOR NURSING PRACTICE (NURS 365), INTEGRATED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING II (NURS 375), and NURSING IN MENTAL HEALTH AND ILLNESS ACROSS THE LIFESPAN (NURS 395) to progress to TRANSITIONS IN HEALTH AND ILLNESS (NURS 425), INTEGRATED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING III (NURS 435), and NURSING CARE OF CLIENTS AND FAMILIES ACROSS THE LIFESPAN WITH ACUTE CONDITIONS (NURS 455).
Students must earn a grade of C or better in TRANSITIONS IN HEALTH AND ILLNESS (NURS 425), INTEGRATED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING III (NURS 435), and NURSING CARE OF CLIENTS AND FAMILIES ACROSS THE LIFESPAN WITH ACUTE CONDITIONS (NURS 455) to progress to POPULATION-BASED NURSING (NURS 460), NURSING LEADERSHIP (NURS 470), and INTEGRATED EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING IV (NURS 475).
- Progression is contingent upon satisfactory completion of prescribed prerequisites. A grade of “incomplete” in any prerequisite course will make the student ineligible for enrollment in succeeding courses until the “incomplete” is converted to a satisfactory passing grade.
- Any student earning a grade of C- or below in a required nursing course on two separate occasions, whether as a second grade of C- or below upon repeating a required nursing course, or a grade of C- or below in two different required nursing courses, will be dismissed from the nursing major.
- For more information, please see the School of Nursing student manual.
Pre-Licensure Nursing Student Expenses
Students must purchase uniforms, nursing equipment and the immunization tracker. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from clinical sites. Parking fees associated with clinical practice are the responsibility of the student. In addition, students must purchase assessment exams and nursing exams at each level as well as an electric health record subscription and pay a high fidelity simulation fee each semester. Students are responsible to cover costs incurred for post bloodborne pathogen exposure follow-up.
