0.1 Preface

Linfield University Faculty Handbook

The Linfield University Faculty Handbook contains policies and procedures under which faculty members, individually and collectively, do their work. Its purpose is to assist faculty and academic administrators in carrying out their functions effectively and cooperatively. The handbook does not contain the full text of all policy documents that are applicable to faculty. Other applicable documents include the Linfield University Course Catalog (https://www.linfield.edu/catalog/index.html) and the Linfield University Institutional Resources (https://linfield.sharepoint.com/sites/PoliciesHandbooks) should also be consulted. The handbook does not necessarily contain the full text of all policy documents. Its content has various sources. While many of its provisos have been fully agreed to by all members of the Linfield Community, others have not.

Because occasional revisions of the handbook can be expected, the handbook with revisions is maintained in the Office of Academic Affairs and by the Faculty Senate. The handbook version on the university webpage will always be the most current version.

This 2024-25 handbook supersedes all previous versions of the Linfield University Faculty Handbook. Where there is an express or implied conflict between this version and previous versions, the policies in this handbook will prevail.

Note on References to Committees/Deans

As a result of institutional restructuring, references to committees and deans have been generalized throughout the Faculty Handbook (“relevant Curriculum Committee,” “relevant dean,” etc.). When this type of designation is utilized, the following apply: Link to Designation Graph

Note on References to Department Chairs

Throughout the Faculty Handbook, references to the chair of the Department of Nursing refer to the Dean of the School of Nursing.
