III.8 Board of Trustees: Faculty Representation
III.8.1 Faculty-Nominated Trustee
Per Article IV, Sections 2 of the Bylaws of Linfield University, “one position on the Board shall be filled from a nomination made by the Faculty Senate for a two-year term, renewable upon approval by the Board. The faculty nominee may not be a current faculty member or employee of the University, shall have a background in higher education, and may be a former Linfield faculty member or a current or former faculty member at a different higher education institution.”
III.8.2 Faculty Representatives to the Board of Trustees
Per Article IV, Section 3 of the Bylaws of Linfield University: three non-voting faculty representatives to Board meetings may be appointed as follows:
- The chair of the Faculty Senate shall serve as representative ex-officio, for the school or college in which they are a faculty member.
- Two additional representatives may be appointed by the Faculty Senators representing the two schools or college other than that school or college in which the chair of the Faculty Senate is a faculty member.
- The faculty representatives shall not vote or attend any executive session of any Board or Board committee meeting but shall otherwise be entitled to participate in all Board plenary, working and business meetings, and in meetings of standing Board committees (other than the Executive Committee) upon agreement with the relevant committee chair. This participation shall include the opportunity to participate in discussions and to address the Board at business meetings.
III.8.3 Faculty Liaisons to Committees of the Board of Trustees
Consistent with the bylaws, the chair of the Faculty Senate and one additional representative appointed by the faculty senators from each school or college other than the school or college in which the chair of the Faculty Senate is a faculty member are invited to the plenary session and the board meeting. The intent is to have consistent representation from CAS, SOB, and SON.
Participation in committee meetings of the board is the purview of each committee chair. Given that the business of the board varies throughout the year, the committee chairs reserve the right to invite specific faculty members as they may be needed as subject-matter resources to the business of the respective committee.
